Orava Castle
One of the greatest tourist attractions in northern Slovakia is Orava Castle, located just a few kilometres from Kubínska hoľa. Its uniqueness lies in the details – carefully furnished interiors that reveal a piece of history. The castle offers a wide range of exhibitions, cultural events and accompanying activities. It is built on a rock above the Orava River in the village of Oravský Podzámok, resembling an “eagle’s nest.” In the past, it served as a county castle and the seat of the Orava estate. The buildings and interiors reflect a blend of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and modern architectural styles. When visiting Kubínska hoľa, this castle is definitely a must-see.
AQUA RELAX Dolný Kubín
AquaRelax Aquapark Dolný Kubín is located in the centre of Dolný Kubín. Its advantages include a quiet environment, a location on the edge of the town, clean water, a large swimming pool and a variety of attractions. During the summer season, the outdoor Aqua area is open to visitors. A spacious grassy area offers two outdoor pools – a larger 25-metre pool and a children’s pool. The pools are surrounded by a terrace with sun loungers and umbrellas.
P. O. Hviezdoslav Orava Museum, Dolný Kubín
The historic building of the Čaplovič Library in Dolný Kubín is now home to the P. O. Hviezdoslav Orava Museum, which manages two of its eight permanent exhibitions here. The first is a literary exhibition that visitors have been able to admire since 1954, making the P. O. Hviezdoslav Orava Museum the oldest literary museum in Slovakia. This exhibition presents the life and work of one of the most important Slovak poets and writers, Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav. In addition to written and visual materials, visitors can also see original personal items from Hviezdoslav’s legacy – including an authentically furnished study and part of a salon with many personal belongings. In front of the library building stands a monumental bronze statue of P. O. Hviezdoslav in larger-than-life size.
Brezovec Entertainment and Sports Centre – Dolný Kubín

Orava gallery Dolný Kubín
Orava Gallery is a regional gallery with county-wide responsibility for the Žilina Self-Governing Region, established in 1965. It is located in Dolný Kubín, on Hviezdoslav Square, in the historic County House from the 17th century, which serves as the administrative and exhibition centre of the gallery. In addition to temporary exhibitions held in four exhibition spaces, the County House in Dolný Kubín also features permanent exhibitions, including Old Art from the 15th to 19th centuries, Icons, Slovak Fine Art of the 20th century, Štefan Siváň – woodcarver from Orava, and Traditional Folk Art – selection.
Rafting on the Orava River
Enjoy a scenic raft ride on a traditional wooden raft along the Orava River, passing beneath the cliffs of Orava Castle, which has stood as a proud landmark of the region for nearly 800 years. During the ride, you will be treated to unique views of Orava Castle and experience a journey back in time. The trip also includes expert commentary on the history of traditional rafting on the Orava River. The rafting starts in Horná Lehota and takes approximately 1 hour to reach Oravský Podzámok.
Wooden Articular Church in Leštiny – UNESCO heritage site
In the village of Leštiny, you will find a national cultural monument – an articular wooden church dating back to 1688–1689. It was built by Jób Zmeškal, captain of the castle guard at Orava Castle and the first “vice-ispán” (county official) in Dolný Kubín. The interior of the church is decorated with a Baroque altar featuring polychrome woodcarving from the early 14th century, a painted railing with yellow and white floral motifs on a blue background from 1821, a richly decorated Renaissance pulpit from the early 18th century, a copy of J. Zmeškal’s funeral banner, and the epitaph of M. Meško from 1753. Also noteworthy are the patron benches, once reserved for wealthy local families. One of the greatest Slovak poets, Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, was baptized in this church.
